Lakeshore Radiology Associates

Our History

The history of Lakeshore Radiology begins with Gilbert "Gib" Stannard (1922-2010).  Gib was born and raised in Greenbush, WI.  His father, Gilbert H. Stannard, Sr. MD, was a surgeon and a founder of the Sheboygan Clinic.  Gib attended medical school, and served his internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin, and subsequently returned to Sheboygan to join the Clinic in the mid-1950's.

Shortly thereafter, Dr. Gib Stannard was contacted by the hospitals in Manitowoc County and was asked to provide radiology services for our County.  He moved to Manitowoc and served Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc Memorial Hospital and Two Rivers Community Hospital, as well as multiple clinics providing both diagnostic as well as therapeutic radiology services.  As the practice volume increased, he was joined by an additional radiologist, Michael A. Jacobi MD, in 1964.  The volume of radiology and nuclear medicine procedures grew further and George E. Cassidy MD joined the group.  Their practice was incorporated as "Lakeshore Radiology Associates" in 1972.

In 1977, Thomas A. Keller, M.D. joined the group and further services were added including computerized nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT scanning, as well as expansion of  angiography services including cerebral angiography and angioplasty.   Lakeshore Radiology additionally expanded therapeutic radiology services adding Young Byun, M.D. from the University of Michigan to perform therapeutic radiology (radiation therapy).

As the provided services increased, radiologists Stephen L. Dudek MD and Todd J. Schroeder MD joined the group and added additional expertise in the expanding services of Diagnostic Radiology, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging and advanced interventional procedures. Matthew J. Koeberl, M.D. joined the practice in 2015 with advanced fellowship training in musculoskeletal radiology and is able to provide state of the art diagnostic and interventional procedures otherwise only available at major teaching centers.

After 35 years of service, Dr. Dudek retired in 2020.  Upon his retirement, Dr. Stephen J. Johnston joined the group after completing a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology as well as an in-residency mini-fellowship in neuroradiology.
